My Favorite Pick Me Up: Cayenne Pepper

cayenne-pepper

Cayenne pepper is a natural herb extracted from the seeds of the fruit of a tropical shrub known as capsicum. Different species of the same shrub produce green and red peppers. Cayenne has a hot pungent spicy taste and has many uses in homeopathic practice as well as a hot spice for general cooking. It can be bought from most supermarkets as it is natural, safe and effective.

Why you Should Mediate Daily!

The benefits of meditation

The world we have created is a product of our thinking; it cannot be changed without changing our thinking – Albert Einstein.

Do you meditate daily? 90% of the population does not. Until recently, I never sat in silence except at the end of my weekly Ashtanga yoga practice – that was for 20 breaths only. During these 20 breaths however, I would feel a sense of peace, joy and serenity.

How Tapping Helped me to Relieve my Pain

800px-Thunder_rym

About eight weeks ago, I hurt myself badly. I mean, really badly. At first I was misdiagnosed and, as a consequence, was left with unbearable pain radiating throughout my whole body, day and night. I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t walk, and I was completely overwhelmed by the pain and its consequences. Feeling the pain was my only experience of the day, and being in pain was literally the only thing I could possibly do. I just couldn’t focus away from it. I thought I had already experienced how painful a sick body can be when I was in Africa, but my dysentery was a fricking walk on the beach compared to what I was now experiencing.

A Raw Chocolate Mousse – Vegan, Gluten and Sugar-Free

vegan-chocolate-mousse

If you guys know me, you know that I looove chocolate. Chocolate for breakfast, lunch and dinner; that´s me-;)

Today I have another 3 minute treat for you: a divine chocolate mousse.  The idea of the recipe came from an Irish raw food chef who made me taste an avocado-based mousse. Wait I know what you are thinking: “a salty mousse?” As weird as it sounds, I can assure you that you cannot taste the savory avocado in it – but only appreciate its wonderful creamy texture mixed with some ripe and sweet bananas.  It’s insanely good! I can never keep the cup in the fridge filled for more than a day; I literally eat it all in one go!

2 Books that will Change your Life!

DYING TO BE MORE – Anita Moorjani

Dying-To-Be-Me-In Dying to be me, Anita Moorjani shares her incredible journey from cancer to near-death to true healing. Anita battled for 4 long years against lymphoma cancer. The cancer had spread to the point that she had swollen lymph nodes all over her body; she was dying. Rushed to the hospital, she went into a coma. While in the coma, Anita had a pre-death experience during which she understood why her body had developed cancer. 30 hours later, she came out of coma and within a week, she was cancer-free. There was literally no sign of cancer in her body.

The message I received from this book is that we are all unconditional love. We are loved just because we exist and we don’t need to prove ourselves. We only have to be who we are to attract what is truly ours.

This book reminded me how important it is to live life from a place of passion rather than from a place of fear. No matter what challenge life gives us, it’s really important to look for the gift in it.

This book is truly amazing. You can buy Dying to be me here.

Coconut Quinoa Stir-fry

IMG_6958

Back home late after a hot yoga class, I made this quick and tasty (grain-free) meal. I used quinoa, a gluten free super-seed and a great source of vitamins and minerals – iron, magnesium, vitamin E, potassium, amino acids, and fiber. Not only is quinoa high in protein but, the protein it supplies is complete protein, meaning that it includes all nine essential amino acids. This makes it a great choice for vegetarians and vegans.

My Top 10 Anticancer Foods

There is cancer in my family and I believe it may be in yours too as cancer is the second leading cause of death in Europe. The investment in research and treatment have never been as high as today but still we are getting sicker and sicker.  The reason is simple: there is no focus on prevention. I guess there is NO money being made in health – only in sickness!

If there are many risk factors for cancer, diet is the one that can be controlled very closely on a day to day basis. Food is medicine and every plant food  has got amazing healing power.

When dealing with cancer healing and cancer prevention, research has shown that some foods are more powerful than others.

Here is my top 10 preventive cancer food:

1-      Garlic: is antibacterial, antifungal, and contains chemicals that help to prevent cancer.

2-      Curcuma: the latest researches have shown turmeric to be a very powerful anti-cancer agent by increasing the degeneration of blood vessels that supply cancerous growths. By doing so, the tumors lose their ability to grow and spread.

3-      Green leafy vegetables: are loaded with folate and chlorophyll. They are also great blood purifiers.

4-      Apple Cider Vinegar: is a wonderful natural product that has many different health benefits.

5-      Flaxseed oil: is very rich in omega 3 essential in order to keep inflammation in check.. Make sure to buy organic flax seed and to keep it in the fridge.

6-      Cruciferous veggies: broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, bok choy and kale. They contain isothiocyanates which kill cancer cells, and prevent tumours from growing.

7-      Berries: are loaded with antioxydants which neutralize free radicals. Read about the power of berries here.

8-      Papaya: University of Florida researcher Dr. Nam Dang, and colleagues in Japan have documented papaya’s dramatic anticancer effect against a broad range of lab-grown tumors, including cancers of the cervix, breast, liver, lung and pancreas.

9-      Green tea: chemicals in green tea called polyphenols appear to inhibit two proteins that promote tumor cell growth and migration.

10-  Asparagus: is a potent antioxidant, anti-fungal and antiviral.

Try to incorporate all these foods into your daily menu plan (or at least 5 of them daily). More than offering you anticancer properties, these foods will all really improve your health overall.

Take care of yourself! Your health is a gift.

10 Reasons Why you Should Remove White Bread from Your Diet

I grew up in France, where a meal without a baguette is not a proper meal-,) I used to love the sweet taste and crusty texture of the white baguette.

Then I moved to Dublin, where “bread” can hardly be called bread…

Dublin doesn’t have any bakeries. You can find only commercially produced bread that comes in a packet. Not only is the bread made of refined flour depleted of fiber, minerals and vitamins, it also comes with lots of added salt, sugar, skimmed milk-powder, preservatives, additives and so on… the list is endless. This type of product is non-food.

Why you shouldn’t eat white bread:

1. It is depleted of fiber, which is essential for the proper functioning of the colon, for the complete digestion of food, and for waste elimination. Do you ever feel bloated? If so, try replacing white bread with brown bread for a week and then see how you feel.

2. It is loaded with chemicals. Stay away from toxins!

3. It is acidic to the body.

4. It has a large proportion of high-GI (glycemic index) carbohydrates. These carbohydrates cause sugars to be released quickly into the bloodstream, which leads to insulin resistance.

5. It slows down the body’s metabolism and causes it to store fat, especially around the belly.

6. It is bleached using chemical bleaching agents.

7. It contains artificial colorings and flavorings.

8. It raises the level of bad LDL cholesterol in your bloodstream.

9. It contains added gluten to produce a more air-filled loaf.

10. It tastes very processed.

What are the alternatives to white bread?

Choose any whole-meal or wholegrain bread from a reliable bakery, or buy it from your health-food store. Soon you’ll find yourself loving its superior taste, along with all the health benefits that come with it.

Alternatively, you can also make your own healthy wholegrain bread at home. I haven’t eaten a piece of white bread in ages, and I surely wouldn’t swap a slice of my home-baked, seed-filled brown bread for a piece of a French baguette-,)

With love,

Celine
